Huskies Resume Indoor Season at Great Dane Classic

Jan. 12, 2018

Albany, N.Y. – The UConn men’s track and field team are set to compete in their first meet of 2018 on Saturday, January 12 at the Great Dane Classic at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Center beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Last season the Huskies notched a first place finish in the meet with standout performances from Craig Hunter (Pole Vault) and Patrick Begley (500M).

The Huskies opened this year’s indoor season by winning the UConn Multi Event Challenge on December 8. Sophomore Jordan Torney won the competition with a point total of 5150. Teammate and freshman Samuel Rusak captured a second place finish for the Huskies.

Tri-captain Trent Beram (Sprints) is excited to compete and believes the team is ready to go after the holiday break.

“I expect it to be a good showing,” said Beram. “Everyone is performing really well. Even at the first meet back in December…we are running right through it.”

Tri-captain Seth Zuidema will not compete on Saturday but will be with the team to provide his leadership.

“It means a lot to be voted by the underclassmen,” said Zuidema. “A lot of them I helped both academically and athletically this year. Seeing them on the track and in the classroom and being able to help them out means a lot.”

Associate head coach Rich Miller and the coaching staff are looking forward to see which guys step up in the opening meet of 2018.

“The guys that we are putting out there this week really have a focused mindset heading into the meet,” said Miller. “We are excited for this opportunity and where we are at right now
