    Huskies Turn in Strong Performances at the 2004 Verizon Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden

    NEW YORK, NY (Feb. 6) - Relay teams from the University of Connecticut men's track and field team turned in two strong performances at the 2004 Verizon Millrose Games held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday evening.

    UConn athletes competed in both the 4x400 and 4x800-meter relays, where they faced some of the top teams in the East.  The Huskies took third in the 4x800 with a time of 7:44.84, and fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:28.59.  The relay team from Penn State won the 4x800 with a time of 7:43.69, while South Carolina took top honors in the 4x400 with a time of 3:21.22.

    Regarded as the nation’s greatest indoor track meet, the Millrose Games has been a sporting fixture in New York City since 1908. Held annually since 1914, the Millrose Games is the longest running sporting event in Garden history. In all, 87 world indoor records have been set or equaled and 117 Millrose Winners have been Olympic Champions. The Millrose Games is part of the prestigious USA Track & Field "Golden Spike Tour".

    The Games kicked off a weekend of competition in which the Huskies will face strong opponents in Princeton and Penn State.  UConn will now travel to the campus of Princeton for the traditional portion of the meet.  Competition is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7.
