STORRS, Conn.-Men’s track and field junior Noel James was named the BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. The Whitman, Mass. native earns this week’s accolade after capturing first place in the high jump at the Penn State Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup with a leap of 2.21m.

"Noel has been competing and performing at a very high level all season.  It only took a great high jump competition at Penn State this past weekend to bring out the best performance of his career to date," Head Coach Greg Roy commented.

The 2.21m jump set a new personal record for the junior who is currently tenth in the nation with Saturday’s performance. James, first in the BIG EAST in the high jump, has taken home three first place titles and one second place finish in UConn’s 2012 indoor campaign.

The Huskies, ranked second in the Northeast Region, will return to competition on Friday, Feb. 10, at the Rider/Lafayette Invitational in New York, N.Y.
