Darnell Cummings Wins the 60 Meter Dash in Day 1 of Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup

Day 1 Results

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior sprinter Darnell Cummings headlined the Huskies effort at Day 1 of the Sykes and Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State. Connecticut concluded Friday with 41 points, heading into the final day of competition in third place overall after posting a pair of top finishes today. Penn State leads the pack with 66 points and Buffalo sits just three points ahead of the Huskies in second place.

Cummings posted his fastest time of the season to earn the win, crossing the finish line in 6.79 seconds to pick up 10 points for the UConn. Trelonni Elliott posted an eighth place finish to contribute another point. The Distance Medley Relay squad of Alvaro Chavez, Kyle Twombly, Robert Rhodes, and Mike O'Donnell continued the success on the track, earning a first place finish in 9:54.20 to pick up 10 more points for the Huskies.

The Huskies picked up 14 points in the 5000 meter run thanks to a pair of top-three finishes by Bryan Fowler and David Cotton. In the field events, Oluwatosin Edwards collected six points by grabbing the bronze in the 35 lb. weight throw with a toss of 19.03 meters.
