PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
University of Connecticut women’s tennis senior Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kansas) and men’s cross country senior Wyatt Million (Wrightstown, N.J.) have been named recipients of the 2016-17 American Athletic Conference Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarship for the school. Each institutional winner receives a $2,000 scholarship for postgraduate studies.
Flanagan is a political science major who plans to attend law school following graduation. She is a three-time member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and has been on the Dean’s List at UConn every semester.
Flaganan is the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at UConn and the school’s representative on the American Conference SAAC. She also took part in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in June 2016.
The Husky senior is captain of the women’s tennis team this season and has won over 60 singles matches in her career.
Million is a biological science major and also has been on the Dean’s List every semester he has been at UConn.
He plans to pursue his doctorate in marine and environmental biology after he earns his undergraduate degree. Million is a member of the UConn SAAC.
He has extensive research experience as he travelled to Chile in January 2014 to be part of the Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program. In the fall of 2016, he was selected to represent UConn at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Morocco.
In addition to running cross country, he has been a contributing member of both the indoor and outdoor track teams at UConn in the distance events.
