BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Connecticut men’s track & field team placed second at the 2014 IC4A Championships in Boston on Sunday. Cornell finishes with 76 points to claim first place while the Huskies earned 54 points to take home second place.

Robert Rhodes earned the lone win for the Huskies, posting the top time in the 500 meter run in 1:02.02. The marker also represented a new school record for the sophomore. Darnell Cummings contributed a second place finish in the 200 meter with a time of 21.27. Patrick Hayes finished just off that time to earn eighth place in 21.71.

Kyle Twombly posted a seventh place performance in the 400 meter in 48.04. Robert Hovanec finished just off his heels in 48.14 to grab eighth place.

Paul DeSalvo captured seventh in the 800 meter run in 1:52.88 while Mike O’Donnell earned an eighth place finish in the mile run in 4:09.55. The 4x400 meter relay team grabbed fifth place with a time of 3:14.15 thanks to Dele Owoye, Justin Alleyne, John Rettenmeier and Chinedu Amonu. Senior Cory Duggan headlined UConn’s efforts in the pole vault with a leap of 5.20m (17-04.50) to set a new personal best and break UConn's Indoor record. Freshman  Craig Hunter took fourth after clearing 5.15m (16-10.75).

Eric Masington earned fifth in the shot put with a heave of  17.52m (57-05.75) while teammate Oluwatosin Edwards captured twelfth with a toss of 18.28m (59-11.75).

"We were pleased with the way the kids competed," said head coach Greg Roy. While we'd prefer first place to second, we know that was the risk we would run with less than a Championship calibre lineup. School records by Robert Rhodes and Cory Duggan were the individual highlights, while Darnell Cummings' second place finish in the 200 meter was a great run as well. With AJ Chavez competing at the NCAA Championships this weekend, most of the team will take a break between seasons this week."
