STORRS, Conn.- UConn men’s track and field head coach Greg Roy announced the captains for the 2013 outdoor season on Tuesday afternoon. Seniors Alex Bennatan, Tim Bennatan, Jesse Drinks, Ben Waruch, Jake Waruch and Cody Unger were selected as this year’s captains.

“We competed the indoor season without named captains, using instead our large Leadership Group of 17 fourth and fifth year athletes in place of elected captains,” Roy stated.  “As we moved to the outdoor season, we wanted to narrow our focus to the top levels of competition and felt that having elected captains would be a start to that.”

The senior captains have found great success during their tenure at Storrs as the student-athletes have amassed five BIG EAST titles. Tim Bennatan and Jake Waruch each tallied two apiece, while Unger has captured one conference crown.

“These six men were chosen by their peers as being representative of the ideals of a student-athlete in the men’s track and field program,” Roy concluded.
