ATHENS, Ga. – University of Connecticut men’s track and field athletes Kris Horn and Jesse Chapman completed day one at the Bulldog Decathlon on Thursday. After five events, Horn owns 3,756 points while Chapman enters day two with 3,554.
Horn and Chapman finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 100 meter dash after Horn posted a time of 11.23 and Chapman finished in 11.79. The duo had identical finishes in the long jump, with Horn taking seventh with a leap of 6.68m (22-06.25) and Chapman jumping for 6.08m (19-11.50).
Chapman owned the shot put, taking first with a throw of 14.45m (47-05.00). Horn earned eighth place with a hurl of 11.73m (38-06.00). Horn found success in the high jump, landing in fourth after clearing 2.01m (6-07.00). Chapman was able to leap over 1.83m (6-00.00) for eighth place.
Horn earned his highest finish of the day in the 400 meter dash, running a time of 51.15 seconds. Chapman clocked a time of 53.24 seconds, good for eighth place.
The decathlon will conclude tomorrow, beginning with the 110 meter hurdles at 11:00 am and finishing with the 1500 meter run at 3:00 pm.
