ATHENS, Ga. – UConn men’s track and field opened competition at the Specs Town Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia on Friday afternoon. The decathletes wrapped up competition while UConn’s field athletes opened up the Invitational.
Jesse Chapman and Kris Horn concluded the decathlon on day two, with Chapman sliding into fifth place with 6,871 points and Horn finishing just behind his teammate with 6,859 points. Chapman and Horn finished sixth and eighth, respectively in the 110m hurdles to begin day two. Chapman once again excelled in the throws, taking fourth in the discus with a launch of 43.08m (141-24).
Horn posted his highest finish of the day when he earned third in the javelin with a 55.72m (182-10) effort. Chapman followed in third with a 55.52m throw (182-02). In the final event, the pair posted a four-five finish in the 1500 meter run, with Chapman crossing the line in 4:55.78 and Horn clocking 5:09.75.
In the field events, three Huskies participated in a pair of events for Connecticut. Harley Lacroix led the effort in the triple jump with a leap of 14.60m (47-11.00). Treval Hatcher clinched fifth after soaring for 13.76m (47-10.00). In the hammer throw, Oluwatosin Edwards finished in ninth place with a 53.12m (174-03) toss.
Competition heats up again on Saturday morning, starting with the shot put at 12:00 p.m. The meet will conclude at 4:40 p.m. with the 1600m relay in the afternoon.
