    STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut men’s track and field team will hold its final home meet of the season on Saturday at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. The New England Challenge Meet will pit the Huskies against the University of Rhode Island and Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, April 17.

    A complete meet schedule has been posted above. Action begins at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday with the field events. The javelin throw will commence at noon, followed by the hammer throw at 1:00 p.m. Action concludes for field athletes with the high jump competition at 2:30 p.m. On the track, the steeplechase will begin the day at 1:00 p.m. Concluding the meet will be the 4x400m relay.

    UConn enters Saturday’s competition after a solid showing at the Specs Town Invitational last weekend in Georgia. Robert Rhodes and Mike O’Donnell paced the Huskies with a pair of first place finishes. Rhodes led a strong Connecticut performance across the board in the 800m run. Crossing the line first in 1:51.06, Rhodes currently owns the second-fastest time in the American Athletic Conference. Paul DeSalvo and Philip Caldwell’s top-five performances earned them the sixth and seventh-fastest times in the league, respectively.

    O’Donnell snagged the top time in the conference when he finished the 1500m in 3:51.08 to top the podium last weekend.

    In the Bulldog Decathlon preceding the Specs Town Invitational, Jesse Chapman and Kris Horn locked up fifth and sixth places, respectively. Chapman accumulated a total 6871 points while Horn finished with 6,859. The totals rank Chapman 30th and Horn 31st among Division I national leaders.

    Bryan Fowler will be competing at Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational tomorrow in New Jersey. Fowler will look to take home the title in the 5k. Results from the invitational can be found by following THIS LINK. Updates will also be posted to uconnhuskies.com.
