STORRS, Conn. – Men’s track and field sophomore Claudio DelliCarpini was named the BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. The West Harrison, N.Y. native earns this week’s accolade after capturing first place in the 110m hurdles at the UNH Invite with a time of 14.23.
“Claudio, part of great hurdling tandem with freshman Selwyn Maxwell, is excited about this honor, but more excited to compete in his first BIG EAST Championship this weekend,” Head Coach Greg Roy commented.
The 14.23 mark is currently seventh in the BIG EAST for the 110m hurdles and 43rd in the NCAA East Region. It also marks a new career best for DelliCarpini.
The Huskies, ranked second in the Northeast Region, will begin the 2012 Outdoor Championship season with the 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships this weekend in Tampa, Fla. Events begin on Friday, May 4 and end on Sunday, May 6.
