STORRS, Conn.- The University of Connecticut men’s track and field squad will travel to Princeton, N.J. this weekend to compete in the IC4A Championships from Friday-Sunday. The Huskies are coming off a fourth place finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships where junior Jake Waruch led the team capturing the decathlon title after dominating each event.
UConn, ranked second in the Northeast Region, took home sixth place in the 2011 IC4As and will strive to bring the crown back to Storrs once again. The Huskies won their first IC4A Championship in 2010.
Joining Waruch on the podium was his brother Ben who finished second in the decathlon, while Sam Smith was fourth and Kyle Rowbotham concluded the event sixth. Also bringing home a gold medal in the 2012 Outdoor BIG EAST Championships was junior Noel James (Whitman, Mass.) who was first in the high jump.
In the throwing events, the Huskies will look to senior Mike Alleman and junior Josh Faboyede to lead UConn and help gain significant points towards earning the IC4A team crown. The two throwers have been a consistent force all season for Connecticut and will work towards reaching the podium once again. Alleman is currently the defending shot put champion after capturing the title last spring.
Friday’s events will begin at 1 p.m. with the last event beginning at 9:15 p.m. at the William Weaver Track & Field Stadium. Click here to get to the IC4A website.
