    STORRS, Conn.- The UConn men’s track and field team is sending six Huskies to this weekend’s NCAA East Preliminary Round hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. at the Irwin Belk Track inside of Aggie Stadium. The preliminary regional rounds feature the top-48 student-athletes in each event with the top-12 advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 5-8. Connecticut will begin competition on Thursday with the first Husky kicking off the weekend at 10 a.m. with the meet running through Saturday evening.

    Senior sprinter Jesse Drinks will be representing UConn in the 100 meter dash and is slotted in the No. 41 spot following a time of 10.44 at the BIG EAST Championships where he claimed third. Drinks’ time of 10.44 currently has him sitting at No. 75 in the nation.

    The second Husky running in a track event in Greensboro will be sophomore Selwyn Maxwell. Maxwell is set to compete in the 110 meter hurdles after capturing the bronze at both the BIG EAST Championships and the IC4A Championships. Maxwell is the No. 17 seed in the region and his time of 13.93 at the conference meet has him set at No. 34 in the country.

    Connecticut will have four Huskies competing in four field events in Greensboro with junior Eric Masington guiding the group. Masington is the lone Husky to compete in multiple events at the East Regionals as he will take place in the shot put and the discus. He is the No. 37 spot in the shot put (17.38m) and No. 17 in the discus (56.46m).  


     

     

    In Thursday’s pole vault, junior Cory Duggan will attempt to stamp his ticket to Eugene when he heads to Greensboro as the No. 25 jumper following a leap of 5.15m for the silver at the BIG EAST Championships.

    Lastly, senior Josh Faboyede and sophomore Chris Ackell will round out the competition as each are slated to participate in Saturday’s hammer throw. Faboyede, who took second at the BIG EAST Championships, enters North Carolina at No. 27 with a throw of 60.63m at the conference meet. Ackell sits at No. 25 after a hurl of 60.73m at the UConn Classic.

    Jesse Chapman has already solidified his trip to Oregon as he will participate in the decathlon at the No. 20 slot. Chapman won the BIG EAST Championships with a stellar 7,437 points.
