DES MOINES, Iowa – Junior captain Jake Waruch was forced to withdraw from the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday afternoon after pulling his hamstring in warm-ups at Drake Stadium. Waruch was set to compete in the decathlon on Wednesday and Thursday in search of his first All-American title.

“Jake Waruch was fully prepared for the NCAA Championships, and to have lost his opportunity in this way was devastating,” stated Head Coach Greg Roy. “While disappointing, it will only serve to fuel Jake’s passion to continue to be the leader, competitor and person that we look to lead the program in 2013.”

Waruch’s unfortunate ending to the season came after he captured the 2012 BIG EAST decathlon crown with 7,230 points and a UConn Decathlon first place personal-best finish of 7,597 points which earned him a trip to Iowa.
