Huskies Host Multi-Event Challenge on Thursday & Friday

Dec. 6, 2017

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men’s track and field team will host the UConn Multi Event Challenge on Thursday, December 7th and Friday, December 8th. The event will be held in the Hugh S. Greer Field House and kicks-off each day at 12 noon.

Both days are open to the public.

The heptathlon begins Thursday with the 60m Dash followed by long jump, shot put and high jump. Friday’s schedule starts with the 60m hurdles and will conclude with the pole vault and the 1000 meters.

Friday’s schedule will also feature a pentathlon starting with the 60m hurdles and followed by high jump, shot put, long jump and the 800 meters.

For two freshman Huskies in particular, Samuel Rusak and Benjamin Grosse, this will be their first time competing collegiately.

“Well I have pretty high expectations for Sam [Rusak]. Sam really has the most experience of everybody here in all the events even though he’s still new in a lot of things but I have some pretty high expectations for Sam,” said Associate Head Coach Rich Miller.

Sophomore Jordan Torney carries his experience from his rookie season into this year. At last year’s IC4A meet, Torney took home eighth in the heptathlon, taking third in the long jump, his specialty.

Santino (Sonny) Giannini, who transferred from Southern Connecticut State University this year will also make his debut as a Husky this week.

“It’s been really awesome to train with some fantastic guys and some fantastic coaches and I’m really excited to bring my experience as a junior to this group of younger guys. Hopefully I can lead them through this heptathlon and they can lead me through too,” said the junior transfer.

After this week’s competition, the team will be off for winter break and return to action on Saturday, January 13 at the Albany Great Dane Classic.
