AMHERST, Mass. – Competing in its first meet of the 2016 season, the UConn men’s cross country team picked up a second-place finish at the Minuteman Invitational on Saturday morning on the campus of UMass. The Huskies finished the six-team meet with 41 team points, trailing only Maine (35).
As a team, UConn averaged a 19:28 second finish in the 6K race and tallied three of the top six individual finishers overall.
"I think our guys competed tough out there today," said head coach Greg Roy. "We're excited to get our captains Mike O'Donnell and Michael McGonnigle back into the fold next week. Overall, I'm pleased with the effort and believe that we have the makings of a very solid squad."
Junior standout Parker Timmerman was the first Husky to cross the finish line, taking third overall with a time of 19:19.9 seconds. Teammates Kyle Brackman (19:21.8) and Harrison Block (19:23.9) finished fourth and sixth, respectively. For Block, the result marked his first collegiate race.
Next up, junior Aidan Fiol secured a top-10 finish, registering a time of 19:45.3, while Wyatt Million (19:41.9), Kyle Barber (19:48.8), and newcomer Cameron Garrelts (19:55.2) all placed in the top-30 individually.
The meet field consisted of Maine, Vermont, Amherst, Sacred Heart and UMass-Amherst. Maine's Jesse Orach was the overall individual winner, pacing the field with a time of 18:58.6.
