Ryan McGuire and the Huskies take first place at the UMass Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. -The University of Connecticut men's cross country team captured first place in its first meet of the 2011 season at the UMass Invitational on Saturday morning.UConn earned 44 points in the competition, just four points ahead of the hosting Minutemen who took second with 48 points.

The Huskies finished first out of six teams with five runners finishing in the top twenty as senior Scott Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) was UConn's top racer coming in 4th at 22:40.82.

Shortly behind Johnson was junior Nick Aguila (West Hartford, Conn.) taking 5th place with a time of 22:43.66 and junior Jordan Magath (Hillsborough, N.J) in 8th with 22:48.74.

Rounding out the Huskies top-twenty finishers was sophomore Ryan McGuire (Orange, Conn.) in 13th and freshman Bryan Fowler (Tolland, Conn.) in 14th with times of 23:09.29 and 23:10.12, respectively.

The final two Huskies to cross the finish line were junior Joe Clark (West Islip, N.Y.) in 37th (24:05.69) and junior Alex Bennatan (Lake Forest, Ill.) in 40th (24:10.58).

UConn continues the 2011 season at the Ted Owens Invitational on Saturday, September 24, in New Britain, Conn.
