BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The UConn men's cross country team finished eighth of 40 teams on Friday at the Paul Short Run in the men's gold race.
Utah State won the team title in the race while Georgetown was second. The Huskies in eighth finished ahead of Wake Forest in ninth and Georgia Tech in tenth.
The top Husky finisher on the day was redshirt junior Patrick Begley (Suffield, Conn.), who finished in 20th place of 359 runners in a time of 24:00. Senior Mike O'Donnell (Methuen, Mass.) was 28th in 24:08 while redshirt junior Michael McGonnigle (New Fairfield, Conn.) was 52nd in 24:28.
"Eighth place was a solid performance for us and our top five all ran in under 25 minutes," said UConn head coach Greg Roy. "We averaged about 40 seconds per man faster than we ever have before."
Junior Kyle Brackman (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) was 83rd in 24:43 and sophomore Ian Mickool (Ridgefield, Conn.) rounded out the Husky scorers in 119th place in 24:57.
UConn returns to action on Friday, October 13 with runners going to both the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisc., and the Rothenberg Run in Warwick, R.I.
