BOSTON, Mass. - Guided by a second place finish from senior captain William Sanders (Wethersfield, Conn.), the University of Connecticut men's cross country team took sixth place at the New England Championships. The sixth place finish is a 24 spot jump from the Huskies' finish last season.
Sanders finished first on the team and second overall with a time of 24:33. Coming in second for the Huskies was junior Scott Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) who crossed the line in 25th place with a time of 25:20. Johnson improved from his team leading 41st place performance last season.
Senior Brian Gagnon (Lowell, Mass.) was the next to finish for the Huskies in 53rd place with a time of 25:46 followed by sophomore Nick Aguila (West Hartford, Conn.) in 96th place finishing in 26:11. The final Husky to finish in the first 100 runners was freshman Myles Udland who came across the line a second behind Aguila in 26:12.
The Huskies hope to bring the momentum of this performance into the Leopard Invitational next weekend in Easton, Pa.
