Wisconsin Nuttycombe Results

Rothenberg Run Results

MADISON, Wisc. -- UConn redshirt junior Patrick Begley (Suffield, Conn.) was the top Husky men’s cross country finisher at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday with a time of 24:35.4, which was good for 80th place overall. The Husky team finished 34 of 35 teams.

Senior Mike O’Donnell (Metheun, Mass.) was the next UConn finisher in 24:58.8, which was 138th place, while junior Kyle Brackman (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) was 178th in 25:17.0.

“The race had 20 of the top 30 teams in the country competing and it was marginally less competitive than the NCAA Championship,” said head coach Greg Roy. “It was a tough finish in our first competition of the season at this level. Patrick is getting really close to being a penetrator and Mike was aggressive and paid a price in the middle of the race.”

Other UConn finishers were: redshirt junior Michael McGonnigle (New Fairfield, Conn.) in 189th place in 25:21.3; sophomore Ian McKool (Ridgefield, Conn.) in 213th in 25:53.8; junior Kyle Barber (Fayetteville, N.Y.) in 216th in 26:00.0; and redshirt freshman Eric Van der els (Norwalk, Conn.) in 230th in 26:43.8.

“I thought Brackman and McGonnigle were solid,” said Roy. “We need to be a bit higher at No. 1 and tighter one through five.”

UConn also competed on Friday at the Rothenberg Run in Warwick, R.I., where the Huskies finished third of five teams as Brown won the title, followed by Vermont, UConn, Rhode Island and Bryant.

Junior PJ Garmon (Billerica, Mass.) was the top finisher for UConn in that event in fourth place in a time of 25:10.3 while sophomore James Mas (Trumbull, Conn.) was seventh in 25:18.3 and senior Parker Timmerman (Brookfield, Conn.) was 10th in 25:21.3

The Huskies are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28, when they travel to the American Athletic Conference Championship at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
