LAFAYETTE, Pa. - Due to first and second place finishes by senior captain Will Sanders (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior Scott Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.), the University of Connecticut men's cross country team took first at the Leopard Invitational tallying just 41 points Saturday.
This was the third year in a row that the Huskies competed in the Leopard Invitational and improved upon their sixth place performance from last season.
Sanders crossed the line first among the 129 runners coming in with a time of 25:45.70 followed by Johnson in second at 26:07.90. Sophomore Nick Aguila (West Hartford, Conn.) came across third for the Huskies and eighth overall in a time of 26:32.90.
Freshmen Artem Skobrev (Norwalk, Conn.), Myles Udland and Jordan Magath (Hillsborough, N.J.) came in fourth, fifth and sixth for UConn and 14th(26:35.50), 16th (26:45.60), and 18th (26:46.50) overall rounding out the Huskies finishers in the top-20 runners.
Freshman Ryan King (Tolland, Conn.) finished 35th in a time of 27:23.50 while his classmate Dan Bubniak (Danbury, Conn.) crossed the line in 39th finishing in 27:31.90. Calvin Carrasco crossed 48th overall in at 27:52.30 while Mike Rutt (Sinking Spring, Pa.) finished 65th in a time of 28:17.70.
Rounding out the pack was Maanek Kumar (Piscataway, N.J.) who came in 117 in a time of 30:38.30.
UConn averaged a time of 26:21.52 finishing with a total time of 2:11:47.60.
