LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The UConn Men's Cross Country team competed in the 2011 BIG EAST Championship on Saturday morning finishing 10th out of 14 teams with junior Nick Aguila(West Hartford, Conn.) crossing the finish line first for the Huskies. Connecticut, who took tenth place for the third straight year, tallied 274 points with eight of its nine runners coming in the top 100 of the 123 racing.
Villanova captured first place with 43 points, Georgetown came in second with 94 points and hosting Louisville finished third with 96 points only one better than fourth place Syracuse who had 97 points.
Aguila, a co-captain who has been one of the Husky leaders in 2011, was the lone Husky in the top 50 taking the 43rd seat with a time of 24:41.6 in Saturday's 8k race.
Junior Jordan Magath (Hillsborough, N.J.) was the next Husky to cross the finish line with a time of 25:51.4 to take 73rd, while freshman Bryan Fowler (Tolland, Conn.) ended in 77th with a time of 26:03.3 and junior Tim Bennatan(Lake Forest, Ill.) took 79th in 26:07.9.
Rounding out the top 100 was junior Alex Bennatan (Lake Forest, Ill.) finishing 93rd (26:54.5) and junior Joe Clark (West Islip, N.Y.) coming in 100 with a time of 27:01.8. The final Husky was freshman Mike Duprey(Bristol, Conn.) in 104th in 27:16.4.
