Begley and Huskies Earn USTFCCCA Academic Accolades

STORRS, Conn. - UConn r-junior Patrick Begley (Suffield, Conn.) was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team annouced on Thursday.  In addition, the entire Husky team was honored as an USTFCCA All-Academic team for the 2017 season.

Begley was honored along with 269 other student-athletes in men's and women's cross country for this past fall season.  In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American in the national meet.

At this year's NCAA Regional, Begley led the Huskies by finishing 21st overall, clocking in with a time of 32:35.9, earning him All-Northeaset Region honors.  At this year's American Championship race, Begley garnered all-conference honors by placing sixth overall.

As a team, the Huskies had a team grade point average of 3.40 for head coach Greg Roy.  UConn was one of 423 teams that brought home All-Academic honors. Of those 423 teams, 228 of them were women’s programs and 195 of them men’s.
