Storrs, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's cross country team will open up the 2010 season this Saturday (Sept. 11), traveling to Fairfield, Conn. for the Fairfield Cross Country Invitational. The men's race will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the Fairfield University campus.
Taking part in the third annual invitational will be Wagner, New Haven, Bridgeport, Fairfield and UConn.
The meet will mark the season opener for New Haven, Bridgeport and UConn, while Fairfield and Wagner opened the 2010 season last weekend. The Stags with a second place finish at the Marist College Mini Meet and the Seahawks with a second place finish at the Monmouth XC Kick-Off.
This season the Huskies will be led by senior Scott Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) who was the highest UConn finisher at the Fairfield Invitational last year, placing second. Johnson will be joined by eight returners along with nine freshmen for the 2010 season.
Other top returners for the Huskies include sophomores Nick Aguila (West Hartford, Conn.), Jordan Magath (Hillsborough, N.J.), Artem Skobrev (Norwalk, Conn.) and Dan Bubinak (Danbury, Conn.) who combined for nine top-five UConn finishes last season.
