STORRS, Conn. – University of Connecticut men’s cross country head coach Greg Roy announced on Saturday that senior David Cotton (Madison, Conn.) and junior Ned Wilson (Harford, Conn.) will serve as team captains for the 2014 season.
The two upperclassmen were crucial pieces of the 2013 squad that finished fourth in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships last November. Cotton grabbed a 17th-place finish in the event, finishing the 8K race in 24:28.35, while Wilson checked in at No. 23 with a time of 24:40.50.Cotton also registered a top-five finish at the CCSU Ted Owen Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park last September.
The senior delivered another excellent performance on Saturday, taking 18th-place in the 8K race and helping lead UConn to a third-place finish at the Wolfie Invitational hosted by Stony Brook in the team’s opening weekend.
The duo will lead a talented 21-man roster that features just six upperclassmen.
“Dave and Ned are the perfect captains for a young team,” said Roy. “Both student-athletes have had careers marked by perseverance that has led to success.”
