Men's Cross Country Finishes Fifth At UMass Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. (September 20, 2008) - The University of Connecticut men’s cross-country team took fifth at the UMass Invitational Saturday in Amherst. Freshman Luke Albertson (Norwich, Conn.) was the first to cross the finish line at 27:24 for the Huskies finishing 24th overall.

Next to finish for UConn was sophomore Scott Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) finishing only seconds behind Albertson with a time of 27:32. A minute later, freshman Rachid Sofiane (Wallingford, Conn.) came in with a time of 28:41 in 45th place.

Freshmen Alex and Tim Bennatan (Lake Forest, Ill.) finished together in 48th and 49th place with a time of 28:52. Finally, junior Andrew Smith (Sudbury, Mass.) rounded out the pack with a time of 29:35.

Taking part in the UMass Invitational were UMass Amherst, Maine, Vermont, Colgate and UConn.

Next up for the Huskies is Connecticut College Invitational in Waterford next Saturday, Sept. 27.
