    All-American Wilson Claims Individual Title at Paul

    BETHLEHEM, PA (Oct. 6, 2001)-- In his first meet of the year, All-American senior (West Haven, CT) raced to an individual title as the University of Connecticut men’s cross country team placed eighth with 236 points at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University. Penn State claimed first place in the 39-team field with 66 points. Bucknell, West Virginia, Haverford and Pennsylvania rounded out the top five.

    Wilson, who garnered All-America status at the 2000 NCAA Cross Country Championship, claimed first place among all individuals with a time of 24:19.33. Sophomore Eric Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, NY) notched his second top-20 place of the season, finishing 20th with a time of 25:18.70. Juniors Mike Hall (Washington, CT) and (Randolph, NJ) also recorded top 60 finishes, placing 29th and 58th, respectively. Freshman Pat Blake (Lebanon, CT) rounded out the Husky point scorers with a time of 26:48.4 for 134th place.

    The Paul Short Invitational was UConn’s first meet since September 18. The Huskies return to action this Friday, October 12, when the championship portion of the season begins at the New England Championship in Boston, MA. Connecticut finished eighth at the 2000 New England Championship.
