STORRS, Conn.- The University of Connecticut men's cross country team is set to compete at the 2010 BIG EAST Championship this Saturday (Oct. 30) in Jamesville, N.Y. This year's championship is hosted by Syracuse University and will be held at Jamesville Beach Park, with the men's 8k race beginning at 11:15 a.m.
UConn enters the BIG EAST Championship after a first place finish at the Connecticut College Invite (Oct. 16), with four Huskies finishing in the top-10. UConn was led at the invite by Nick Aguila (West Hartford, Conn.) who placed third with a time of 25:43. The race marked the second time this season that four Huskies have placed in the top-10, also doing so at the UMass Invite.
Aguila and Ryan McGuire (Orange, Conn.) have paced the Huskies this season, Aguila with three first-place UConn finishes and McGuire with one. Aguila was Connecticut's top finisher at the Fairfield Invite (2nd overall; 26:18), New England Championship (25th; 25:19) and the Connecticut College Invite (3rd; 25:43), while McGuire's top finish came at the UMass Invite (6th; 25:53) earlier this season.
Last year UConn finished 10th at the BIG EAST Championship behind a 29th place individual finish from former UConn runner Will Sanders. The host Orange will be looking for back-to-back championships this weekend and five BIG EAST teams enter the meet ranked in the national top-30; Syracuse, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Louisville and Villanova.
