STORRS, Conn. - After finishing in the top-25 at the NCAA Regional Cross Country meet at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday, November 14, senior captain Will Sanders (Wethersfield, Conn.) was named to the USTFCCCA Northeast All-Region Team.
"This season Will has developed to a leader on the cross country squad," said assistant coach Rich Miller. "To achieve All-Region honors is a great accomplishment. At the beginning of the year we set goals to make the NCAA Championship and Will looks forward to building upon this successful season and transitioning it to the outdoor season."
This is the second All-Region honor for Sanders who has had an outstanding senior season with the Huskies. Sanders kicked off his senior year with a first place finish at the UMass Invitational leading the Huskies to a third place finish. He took second at the New England Championship, his highest finish ever at the meet, guiding UConn to a sixth place finish, a 24-spot improvement from last season.
Sanders continued his hot streak crossing the line first at the Leopard Invitational and aiding UConn in their first victory at the meet in three years. He finished 29th at the BIG EAST Championship as UConn came in 10th place at the meet and rounded his season out with a 22nd place performance at the NCAA Regional meet in Boston.
