STORRS, Conn.- As part of UConn Athletics’ inaugural Thank-A-Thon, student-athlete volunteers used phones in the marketing and development offices in the Hugh S. Greer Field House to express their gratitude to more than 3,500 athletics donors.  During 14 one-hour calling periods, approximately 100 student-athletes participated from all 24 Division I teams.  Baseball, Women’s Basketball and Volleyball earned top representation.

The goal of the thank-a-thon is to create a culture of appreciation and philanthropy among the student-athletes, and within the larger athletic department. While there are not frequent opportunities to interact directly with student-athletes, they are found to be some of the most enjoyable and popular experiences among the donor base.

The student-athletes were unaware going in how the calling process would work and what the reception would be, but they all agreed it was a rewarding experience for all involved. Many shared stories at the end of their calling period about some of the great conversations they had. The Thank-A-Thon was such a success that the Athletic Department plans to make it an annual tradition.
