Post Game Quotes – No. 8 Seton Hall
Anthony Bozzella, Seton Hall Head Coach
Opening Statement – “Congratulations to Duquesne. From the first two minutes of the game they executed the way they wanted to execute. They really took it at us and put us on our heels and we had to play catch-up all game. In trying to play catch-up, really the warts start to come out and we really showed a lot of them today unfortunately. It’s very disappointing. Duquesne is aa very good basketball team and so are we but we didn’t show that today unfortunately. I am proud of the team for making the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row, only the second time in school history that was done. As upsetting and frustrating as the loss is today, when you look at the whole body of work, you see 23 wins with a team that graduated four starters from the year before. Getting to the tournament as an eight-seed after being a nine-seed the year before. Saw some real progress from the young kids. And really to get the program to the national stage two years in a row says a lot about where the program has come.”
On Duquesne’s effectiveness inside – “Honestly, I just thought they played harder. They did. You don’t like to say that as the coach, and it’s a reflection on me as the leader of the program, but certainly rebounding is about heart and determination. Early in the game they really took it at us. Ultimately, they went after it and were aggressive. We said we need to start the game off strong, really impose our will and you look up and we are down 7-0. I knew from that point on we would struggle.”
Aleesha Powell, Guard
On Duquesne’s second half play – “I think that their help defense was great. They put a lot of pressure on us and we weren’t playing our way. We didn’t move the ball, we didn’t play as a team. A lot of things that affected us in some other losses this season came back to haunt us today. We didn’t rally and we didn’t pull together. I think that as a whole, I think Duquesne may have outworked us today.”
On Duquesne’s third quarter run – “I think we made some poor decisions offensively, we were working hard to get stops that we didn’t value our possessions. We sped up, I know I took a rushed shot and I think that we needed to just slow down and value our possessions. We didn’t do that and I think that really sparked them.”
Keys to the game – “Both teams were really able to get out in transition and push the ball. We were pressing so it was definitely an up-tempo style of play. That caused the scoring to be high. Also, both teams were finishing opportunities."
On how she will reflect on tournament – “I’m definitely going to remember this for the rest of my life. Being a senior, this is my last go-around, but it’s a great accomplishment and it’s historical. It holds a lot of weight in the program and its success. It’s something that is going to fuel the program and help us get back here again.”
