Post Game Quotes – No. 9 Duquesne

Dan Burt, Duquesne Head Coach

Opening Statement – “Wow.  Wow, what a game that was tonight for us.  The contributions that we had from so many different players that don’t always show up in a box score.  Just a complete team effort tonight, a complete team win.  I could not be more proud or happier for our team and our university today.”

On offensive game plan - “We knew we could get a high-low situation if they went small in the post.  What we really wanted to do is run offensive sets where we had multiple screens.  We thought they would struggle defending multiple screens and we did have success with that.   The high-low worked a couple times.  Early on, if you don’t guard our post players at the three point line we can make you pay.”

On young players handling the big stage – “They did a really nice job, all of them.  From the time that they were on the bench with so much energy there to the practices that we have had with great focus.”

On continuing to attack offensively - “That’s how we play.  That’s what we are trained to do.  That’s our goal every game, to score.  We want to play fast.  We shot the ball well and any time you shoot it well it makes you feel good and you have a little bit more pep in your step.  In that first quarter, it just seemed like we could not miss. “

April Robinson, Guard

On the third quarter – “we just stuck to our game plan.  We knew they were going to get out on us and pressure the ball.  We just tried to get the ball up and get as many lay-ups as we could.  If they made a shot, we wanted to get the ball in as fast as we could.  I think we executed in transition a lot.  If we didn’t have a good shot, we pulled it out and tried to run a set and I think that worked in our favor.”

On getting first NCAA win – “It means a lot.  We are just so excited to be here.  It is a great opportunity and one that not everyone gets to experience.  We tried to take it all in and to get the first win today, we achieved another goal today.  Our athletic director always says the most important number is one.  You have to win the first one to get to the next one.”

On the Third Quarter – “This whole year, coming out of halftime to the 3rd quarter we’ve always had that mentality of pushing the ball and locking down defense. I thought we did that. Then coming down the stretch in the 4th quarter, the clock is always on your side and today I thought we had great looks in transition. I have so much confidence in all these girls to knock their shots down.”

One the Experience – “I think it’s still kind of surreal. We had the Selection Show on Monday and hearing our name called was a feeling that not a lot of people have the opportunity to feel. Everyone is staying calm and focused so that’s an advantage for us because no one has that nervousness.”

Deva’Nyar Workman, Guard

On her career-high night – “Coming out, I just felt very confident in my game today.  If I felt if I could get to the basket, I might as well take it.  This is it, win or go home.  I had nothing to lose so I played with a lot of heart along with my teammates.  We were all just pushing for each other to leave it all out there.”
