HARTFORD - Junior forward Gabby Williams scored 20 first-half points and sophomore forward Napheesa Collier added 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the No. 3/1 University of Connecticut women's basketball team to a 95-32 victory over Pace in the final exhibition tune up.
UConn will open the 2016-17 regular season on Monday, November 14 when the team travels to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on No. 12/12 Florida State. Game time is set for 6 p.m. and the contest will be televised live on ESPN2.
The Huskies scored the first 31 points of the game, led by Williams' 17 points in the game's opening minutes. She connected on her first seven attempts from the floor to help UConn seize control of this one immediately as the team led 35-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Redshirt junior center Natalie Butler scored 16 points on 7-9 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in the win. Junior guard Kia Nurse and senior guard Saniya Chong chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Huskies dominated the paint on Sunday, outrebounding Pace by a 45-27 count and holding a 50-8 advantage in points in the paint. UConn shot 56.7 percent from the floor against the Setters, including 66.7 percent in the first quarter. Pace shot just 19.6 percent from the field.
