Head coach Geno Auriemma
On Natalie Butler
“Anytime you put somebody on the floor you want them to do well. To a point it doesn’t matter what the competition is. I think that today and going forward we need a positive contribution, not just from Natalie but from everybody that we put on the floor. There isn’t anyone who has the luxury of going out there and just being a role player, we need everybody to have a really significant role this year and that’s the big change. Regardless of who we’re playing, or where, or when, it's a positive sign when people do that and Natalie did that today.”

On improving in each exhibition game
“We’ve had more time together in practice, obviously, there are things we did today that we hadn’t spent any time on before the first exhibition game. Some of the things that we did defensively and offensively were a little different today than they were in the first exhibition game. Some of them you can’t see on the stat sheet or when you’re watching the game, but we’re looking for those things. I would hate to think that we wouldn’t be improving, that’s the whole point of these exhibition games.”

Gabby Williams
“There were some things from last game that I wanted to build on, and I didn’t want to take any steps back.”

Napheesa Collier
“Because we lost our three seniors last year, the expectations had to fall on someone. Someone needs to step up and fill that role...Especially in practices, I need to [fill that] role better and lead by example.”

Natalie Butler
“I think that there is a big target on our back, and everyone expects us to play at a certain level...There’s a difference in the way we play; It’s a whole different mindset going into practice. We need to trust ourselves as a team and establish ourselves. We have a lot to prove.”
