    HARTFORD, Conn.   - The UConn women's basketball squad downed Holy Family 119-50 in Wednesday's exhibition contest at the XL Center. Connecticut had seven Huskies record double-figures as the team reached triple-digits for the second time in as many exhibition tries.

    Despite trailing 58-38 at the half, the Tigers held their own the opening period. Holy Family was able to take the lead twice in the first 10 minutes both coming off of threes by Ana Cruz. Cruz and Erin Mann each scored 11 points to lead the Tigers on Wednesday.

    Connecticut's firepower was too much for Holy Family as the Huskies went on an 11-0 run which included threes from senior guard Caroline Doty and sophomore forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis. The opening period featured 17 three pointers with the Huskies notching 10 and the Tigers totaling seven made shots from behind the arc.

    UConn had seven Huskies hit 18 long-balls with the team concluding the evening with a 52.9 percentage from the three. Both Doty (3-3) and sophomore guard Brianna Banks (4-4) were perfect from long range.

    The Husky defense was tremendous on Wednesday forcing 25 Tiger turnovers with UConn scoring 37 points off turnovers, including 23-0 advantage on points off turnovers in the second half. Holy Family was only able to score 12 second half points and concluded the night with a 30.2 field percentage.

    Freshman center Breanna Stewart led the team with 21 points and added four rebounds and two blocks in her 25 minutes of action, while Banks had 20 points on a near perfect night going 8-for-9 from the field. Junior center Stefanie Dolson had a team-best seven grabs in addition to her 15 points and senior guard Kelly Faris posted a game-high nine assists.

    UConn used a 21-0 run in the final period to shut the door on the Wednesday's contest and end the game with a 69-point edge over the visiting Tigers. The Huskies ended the evening with a 55.3 field percentage and 88.2 percent from the charity stripe. The squad outrebounded their opponents 49-22 and dished out 35 assists opposed to Holy Family's 14.  

    The Huskies open the regular season on Sunday, November 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Gampel Pavilion when they welcome College of Charleston. The game will be aired on SNY and can be heard live on the UConn Radio Network.
