Connecticut Head Coach Geno Auriemma
Was it good for Bria Hartley to get a game like this under her belt going forward?
“That’s why we tried to get her as many minutes as we could. She just needs time out on the floor and it was good that we had a bunch of days in a row that she could actually practice. I think it has done wonders for her. She looked like her old self out there. As we’ve said, little-by-little, she wanted to get back to it and tonight was a really big step in that direction.”
What first half to second half comparisons can you make?
“We got a lot done in the first half. I don’t know if we got anything done in the second half. It was 20 minutes of pretty good basketball and the rest was not exactly what we want to see.”
Freshman Forward Breanna Stewart
On mentality coming off the bench:
“I just want to go into the game and play hard and aggressive to help the team in whatever way possible”.
On Bria Hartley’s importance to the team:
“It’s great to have Bria back because she’s a great player and a big part of this team. If she plays like she did tonight, that will really help us throughout the season”.
Junior Guard Bria Hartley
On having her best game of the season:
“I think on the defensive end I was able to get in passing lanes and get steals. Coach stressed switching on defense and getting in the passing lanes and I think our team did that very well tonight as a whole”.
On getting her endurance back:
“Being out for five weeks, my stamina wasn’t exactly where I’m used to being and I think there were times on the court where I was getting tired. But, these 13 days off helped”.
On being aggressive:
“I think I’m at my best when I’m making plays and being aggressive. I think my teammates are used to me doing that and I felt good out there tonight”.
