HARTFORD, Conn. – After three-straight road games, the No. 1 UConn women’s basketball returns home on Wednesday, Jan. 4 to host East Carolina at the XL Center.
Wednesday’s tip will be at 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on SNY with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network.
UConn (13-0) picked up its 88th-straight win Sunday after downing UCF 84-48 in its American Athletic Conference opener. The Huskies are just two wins away from tying their longest win streak in program history, which is also the longest win streak in NCAA women’s basketball history of 90 consecutive games won.
The Huskies picked up their 16th-consecutive win over an opponent ranked in the top-five of the AP Poll after they defeated No. 4/3 Maryland 87-81 on the road. Five Huskies finished with double figure point totals in the top-five match-up against the Terps.
Junior forward Gabby Williams (Sparks, Nev.) was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after averaging 15.5 points on 63.6 shooting from the field, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game in a week that included a pair of road wins against No. 4/3 Maryland and UCF.
UConn is undefeated 6-0 in the all-time series against East Carolina. The two met on three occasions last season, twice during the regular season and once in the conference tournament. In all three contests, UConn defeated ECU by a margin of 40+ points each time.
East Carolina (9-5) is off to an 0-1 start in conference play after Tulane held the Pirates to their lowest point total of the year, defeating ECU 61-45 at home. The Pirates are currently riding a two-game losing streak after they closed out their non-conference schedule with an 82-72 loss to William & Mary.
