Breanna Stewart Named American Conference Player of the Week

Breanna Stewart and the Huskies are back in action on Wednesday.

STORRS, Conn. – Senior forward Breanna Stewart has been selected as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. Stewart has now earned three Player of the Week awards this season.

Stewart averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game while shooting 58.6 percent from the floor during a 2-0 week for the No. 1 Huskies.  Stewart also moved up to No. 3 on UConn’s all-time scoring list with 2,182 career points, surpassing Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Nykehsa Sales and now trailing only Tina Charles and Maya Moore.

 Stewart scored 23 points, snared six rebounds and dished-out seven assists in the Huskies’ victory over No. 6/5 Maryland on Monday night in New York City.  Stewart was also 10-18 from the floor in the Maggie Dixon Classic showdown with the Terps.  She followed that up with a 16-point, nine-rebound, five-assist effort in Wednesday’s win at Cincinnati.  The North Syracuse, N.Y. native was 7-11 from the floor in only 22-minutes of action against the Bearcats. 

The Huskies are back in action on Wednesday, January 6 when the team welcomes Tulsa to the Nutmeg State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the XL Center and the contest will be televised regionally on SNY.
