TULSA, Okla. – Fresh off the team’s 91st consecutive, record-breaking win, the No. 1 UConn women’s basketball team will take on Tulsa on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Reynolds Coliseum.
Tuesday’s tip is at 8 p.m. and the game will be televised on SNY with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network.
UConn (16-0, 4-0 AAC) broke its own NCAA record with its 91st-straight win after downing SMU 88-48 on Saturday. The Huskies outscored the Mustangs 26-2 in the first quarter.
Sophomore forward Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the team with 28 points, just one point shy of her career best.
Junior Gabby Williams (Sparks, Nev.) and sophomore Napheesa Collier (O’Fallon, Mo.) both finished with double-doubles against the Mustang. Williams, who was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Monday, tied her career-best 19 points and contributed 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals for her fifth double-double of the season.
Collier earned her fourth double-double of the season, putting up 19 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and a career-high tying six blocks at SMU.
UConn is a perfect 4-0 in the all-time series against Tulsa. The two met twice during the 2015-16 regular season and UConn was victorious by at least 60 points on both occasions.
Tulsa (5-12, 1-3 AAC) is riding a two-game loss streak since picking up its only conference win against Memphis. After defeating the Tigers 57-52 at home, the Golden Hurricane dropped back-to-back decisions to USF and Temple.
In Tulsa’s most recent loss to Temple, the Golden Hurricane only trailed the Owls by three points at the half, but lost 58-49 despite a scoring surge in the fourth quarter. Freshman Shug Dickson led the team against Temple with 21 points. Junior Erika Wakefield currently leads Tulsa, averaging 12.5 points per game.
The Huskies return home to Gampel Pavilion on Sunday, Jan. 22 when they host Tulane for a 1 p.m. tip.
