HARTFORD, CT (January 18) - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team defeated BIG EAST opponent Georgetown 72-49 Saturday in front of 16,294 at the Hartford Civic Center.  The victory was UConn's 55th in a row, setting a new Division I Women's College Basketball record for consecutive victories.

Georgetown came out hot in the second half mounting an 11-2 run early in the stanza to pull within nine points.  Gerogetown would get no closer as the Huskies answered with a 16-2 run of their own over the next five minutes to put the game out of reach.

Taurasi finished with 22 points and eight rebounds, Jessica Moore (Anchorage, AK) had seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds and Junior Ashley Battle (Pittsburgh , PA) came off the bench to score 12 points. Taurasi, Moore, and freshman Ann Strother (Castle Rock, CO) helped UConn out-rebound Georgetown 48-25 which the Huskies were able to convert into 14 second chance points to the Hoyas two.

Carmen Bruce and Rebekkah Brunson led Gerogetown with 15 and 11 points respectively.
