PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rookie guard Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was tabbed as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. This is the second time Samuelson has earned the honor.
The Huntington Beach, Calif. native averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 assists and shot 63.2 percent from the field in a 2-0 week for the top-ranked University of Connecticut women’s basketball team.
Samuelson started the week with an 11-point, five-assist effort in Wednesday’s win at Memphis. She was 4-of-7 from the field and played 23-minutes against the Tigers. She followed that up with a 21-point, six-assist performance in Saturday’s win over Temple. Her 21 points came on 8-of-12 shooting and marked a new career-high. The six helpers were also a career-best and the five three-pointers marked the second-highest single-game total for a freshman in program history.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday night when they square-off against UCF in the XL Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will be televised on SNY.
