UConn Ratings On SNY Are Flourishing

Feb. 2, 2017

STORRS, Conn. - As the University of Connecticut women's basketball team continues to make history on the court this season, television ratings for its games on SNY are flourishing in both the New York and Connecticut markets.

No better example of that can be found than the impressive numbers from the Huskies win over Temple on Wednesday night. UConn topped the Owls in Philadelphia by a 97-69 score as the program's record winning streak of 96 rolled on and this year's record improved to a spotless 21-0.

The game was telecast by SNY - the television home of UConn women's basketball since 2012. The New York City-based SNY is seen throughout the Northeast on cable television carriers and nationally on satellite and telecommunication providers.

The game had a fantastic television performance in the New York market as its household audience was larger on the same night than an NHL doubleheader on the NBC Sports Network and seven different college basketball games that aired on ESPN2, ESPNU and FS1.

The game had the largest household rating in the New York market of any UConn women's basketball game in SNY history.

"SNY has given our program and entire University an amazing amount of exposure in New York City and around the country," said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma. "They have helped bring our sport to a larger sports audience. It's amazing to me how our ratings just keep growing and growing on SNY."

It wasn't just Wednesday night that the New York marekt tuned in to this year's Husky team. The four-highest rated UConn women's basketball game on SNY in the New York market dating back to 2012 have occurred in the last four weeks.

UConn women's basketball ratings in the New York market have nearly doubled since last season and have more than tripled since the 2012-13 season.

"UConn has been a tremendous partner of ours in every way," said Steve Raab, President of SNY. "The program is world-class and its fan base is among the most passionate in all of college sports. We take great pride in all of our UConn coverage and are pleased to see the growing trend of fans tuning into SNY for their Huskies not only in Connecticut but throughout the Tri-State area."

The win over Temple also delivered the largest rating in Connecticut (Hartford-New Haven market) in three years. UConn games on SNY are averaging a 5.56 rating in Connecticut this year through the first 11 broadcasts - the best mark in the last three years and a 14 percent increase from last year.

The Husky women's basketball team has won four NCAA national championships in a row and 11 in its storied history. Dating back to the first SNY game in November 2012, UConn has a perfect 83-0 record on games televised by the network.

In addition to games, SNY also devotes hours of programming to UConn women's basketball including pre- and post-game shows and the popular Geno Auriemma Show, which features an inside, behind-the-scenes look at the program.
