Husky fans at last year's Pink Game.
Feb. 3, 2014
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team will once again participate in the Play 4Kay initiative this year as the top-ranked Huskies are asking fans to donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund leading up to and during the showdown with No. 5 Louisville on Sunday, February 9 at Gampel Pavilion.
Each fan in attendance Sunday will receive a free pink pom pom and all fans are encouraged to wear pink in an effort to raise awareness for cancer research.
Last year, UConn fans showed tremendous generosity by donating over $30,000 to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Ways to Donate This Year
This year, fans have several donating options online, via phone and in-venue. Fans can donate $10 by simply texting "4KAY HUSKIES" to 85944 or can visit Play4Kay.org/UCONN to donate online.
The women's basketball team has also put 28 items up for auction, which can be accessed by clicking THIS LINK or visiting http://uconnhuskies.cstvauctions.com/gallery.cfm. Items include signed posters, signed basketballs, game-worn uniforms from Sunday's contest, the ties head coach Geno Auriemma will wear on February 9 and on February 16 at USF, and VIP Courtside seating experiences to UConn's game vs. UCF on February 19.
Additionally, members of UConn SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Council) will be collecting donations in Gampel Pavilion during Sunday's game.
In partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the V Foundation for Cancer Research, Play 4Kay is a national fundraising effort in memory of former North Carolina State University head coach Kay Yow, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and battled the disease until 2009.
