UConn Welcomes East Carolina to Gampel Pavilion on Saturday

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 1 University of Connecticut women’s basketball team will take the court in Gampel Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 6 to face East Carolina. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. and will be televised on SNY.

No. 1 UConn Women Defeat ECU 106-56 in American Semifinals
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis scored 21 points as top-ranked UConn moved into the finals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament with a 106-56 rout of East Carolina on Sunday.

UConn (21-0, 11-0 The American) rolled past Tulane, 96-38, on Wednesday night at Devlin Fieldhouse to extend its winning streak to 58-straight. Senior forward Breanna Stewart (North Syracuse, N.Y.) led the way with 20 points and seven assists while the Huskies’ defense held the Green Wave to just 28.8 percent shooting from the field.

While in the Big Easy, Stewart surpassed Tina Charles to become the program’s second-best all-time scorer with 2,351 points. Senior guard Moriah Jefferson (Glenn Heights, Texas) moved past Maya Moore for third on the all-time steals list with 315.

Saturday’s matchup will be the first meeting of the 2015-16 season and fourth overall between the two programs, with the Huskies holding a 3-0 record in the series. Stewart was stellar against the Pirates last year, averaging 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in those two outings.

ECU owns a 9-13 overall record and have dropped its last three games. Redshirt senior guard Jada Payne tops the team with 19.7 points per game while senior forward T’iana Taylor averages a team-best 10.4 rebounds per contest.  



Connecticut will head into Saturday with an all-time record of 234-100 in games played during the month of February. The Huskies have won 65 of their last 70 games played during the month.

UConn sports a 2-0 mark at Gampel Pavilion this season and has won 89 of its last 91 games in its on-campus facility, dating back to 2006.
