Huskies Begin Three-Game Homestand on Saturday

The University of Connecticut women's basketball team begins its longest homestand of the season when they entertain Wichita State on February 10. The Huskies and the Shockers tip-off at 1 p.m. in American Conference action at the XL Center in downtown Hartford. The tilt will be broadcast on SNY and the UConn/IMG Sports Network.

Top-ranked Connecticut (23-0) owns an 8-0 clip in friendly confines this season, including a 4-0 mark at the XL Center. UConn boasts an all-time mark of 165-13 (.924) in games played in Hartford and has won 89 of its last 92 games played at the XL Center.

Junior forward Katie Lou Samuelson is coming off a 19-point performance in the squad's 55-37 win at UCF on Wednesday night. Classmate Napheesa Collier added 11 points and grabbed 12 boards in the win as UConn improved to 11-0 in conference play.

Samuelson is boasting a team-best 17.3 points per game to pace a group of six Huskies averaging double-figures. Senior guard Kia Nurse (15.3) continues to lead the nation in three-point field goal shooting percentage at 48.8 percent, connecting on 61 of her 125 attempts. As a team, UConn ranks first in scoring offense notching 89.7 points per contest.



Watching Wichita

The Shockers (10-15, 5-6 AAC) enter Saturday's contest on a three-game skid after falling to Cincinnati 75-69, Wednesday evening. Wichita State is led by Rangie Bessard's 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Diamond Lockhart is the only other Shocker averaging double-digits (10.4) and leads the team in steal and assists with 35 and 85, respectively.

Series History

Saturday's contest marks the first game between these two teams. UConn has won 86-straight games against first-time opponents.


Two Huskies find themselves ranked nationally in three-point fi eld goal shooting percentage, with Kia Nurse leading the country at 48.8 percent from long range. Katie Lou Samuelson is also in the national 3FG% rankings (45.8, 11th).
