STORRS, Conn. – Junior guard Kia Nurse (Hamilton, Ont.) claimed a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 First Team, as announced by the organization Thursday.
This marks the second-straight year that Nurse has brought home Academic All-District honors. She is the ninth different Husky player to earn the prestigious accolade. In total, UConn players have earned 18 nods to the All-District I Academic squad.
The Hamilton, Ontario native boasts a 3.44 GPA as a liberal arts and sciences major.
The Academic All-District teams includes student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Nurse is now eligible to be named a member of the 2016-17 Academic All-America Team, which recognizes excellence on the court and in the classroom.
On the court, Nurse is averaging 13.3 points per game and ranks sixth in the conference in assists per outing (4.3). She scored a career-high 33 points this season against DePaul on Dec. 1, 2016.
