PHILADELPHIA – The No. 1 University of Connecticut women’s basketball team gets back into American Athletic Conference action when it travels to McGonigle Hall to face Temple on Sunday, Feb. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. on ESPN2.

Stewart Lifts No. 1 UConn to 104-49 Rout Over Temple
Breanna Stewart had 22 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks to lead No. 1 UConn to a 104-49 victory over Temple on Saturday.

UConn (23-0) improved to 19-3 all-time in games pitting the top two teams in the Associated Press Top-25 poll against one another and 14-2 when playing as the No. 1 team after handing No. 2 South Carolina its first loss of the season, 66-54. Breanna Stewart (North Syracuse, N.Y.), Moriah Jefferson (Glenn Heights, Texas) and Morgan Tuck (Bolingbrook, Ill.) combined for 53 points on the night. Stewart posted her third game of the season with at 20-plus points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

On Jan. 16, UConn and Temple met in Gampel Pavilion in the Huskies’ 104-49 victory. Freshman Katie Lou Samuelson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) set a career-high with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, as Connecticut won its sixth-straight game against is Philadelphia-based foes. Overall, the Huskies sport a 6-2 all-time record against the Owls and haven’t fallen to Temple since the 1981-82 season.

Temple enters Sunday’s tilt with a 16-7 record, having won its last five games. Three Owls average double-digit points, led by sophomore guard Alliya Butts (15.9). The squad took down Cincinnati, 74-49, on Tuesday and will face Houston on Friday.



Earlier this week, sophomore Kia Nurse (Hamilton, Ontario) was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team. She is the ninth Husky to receive the honor and holds a 3.43 GPA.
