STORRS, Conn.- The No. 3 Huskies welcome No.1 Baylor to the XL Center on Monday for a 9 p.m. tip on ESPN2 with Dave O'Brien, Doris Burke and Rebecca Lobo on the call. Help the Huskies raise money for the annual Play 4Kay® initiative at Monday's top-five battle where UConn student-athletes will be collecting donations from the Husky faithful. UConn enters the contest with a 24-1 (11-1 BIG EAST) record, while defending national champions and top-ranked Lady Bears also own a 24-1 (14-0 Big 12) mark.
This marks the second time this season that the Huskies have faced the nation's top-ranked team as UConn defeated Stanford, 61-35 on December 29. Connecticut is 5-5 all-time against No. 1 teams, including 2-1 at home.
Monday is only the fourth time that the Huskies and Lady Bears are meeting as UConn is 2-1 all-time against Baylor, including a 70-50 victory over the Lady Bears in the 2010 NCAA National Semifinal. Most recently, Baylor defeated UConn by a 66-61 count on December 18, 2011 in Waco, Texas. In Baylor's only visit to Hartford, the Huskies were victorious by a score of 65-64.
Baylor is led by Preseason National Player of the Year Brittney Griner who averages 22 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game, while point guard Odyssey Sims is averaging 12.4 points and 5.7 assister per game and Brooklyn Pope is scoring 11.1 points and grabbing 5.8 boards per game.
UConn has four Huskies averaging double-digits with Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis leading the way with 16.6 points per game, while Stefanie Dolson is scoring 14.2 points per contest, Breanna Stewart averages 13.2 points and Kelly Faris is averaging 10.5 points per game. Mosqueda-Lewis owns the highest 3-point shooting percentage in the country with 42.6 and Dolson is leading the country with a 62.7 field goal percentage.
