Women's Basketball Returns to No. 1 in
Associated Press Poll
Huskies earn 38 first-place votes
STORRS, Conn. (February 18, 2008) - The UConn women's basketball team returned to the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press Poll, which was released on Monday afternoon, for the second time this season.
The Huskies return to the top spot following a one-week absence after holding the No. 1 ranking for previous seven straight weeks.
Connecticut received 1,230 points and 38 first-place votes. North Carolina checked in at No. 2 with 1,167 points and two first-place votes. Tennessee rounded out the top-three with a single first-place vote and 1,106 points.
Rutgers, the lone team to defeat UConn this season was slotted at No. 5, but received eight first-place votes - the second most of any team.
The week's No. 1 ranking marks the ninth time in which the Huskies have earned the top ranking nationally in the program's history. Connecticut has now been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll for a total of 102 weeks in the program's history.
