STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team would like to pass along its most sincere thanks to all the UConn fans nationwide who made generous and heartfelt donations to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund over the last month.  The Husky fan base once again proved it is the best in the country as UConn fans edged Baylor fans, $23,211.62 - $7,810, in the fundraising competition.

The big winner though is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which received donations from UConn and Baylor fans for a combined $33,021.62. 

Kay Yow, the late Hall of Fame North Carolina State head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. Before her death, she joined forces with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and

The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

The online auction will remain active through Monday, February 25 on UConnhuskies.com.  Fans can visit the auction at this link http://uconnhuskies.cstvauctions.com/gallery.cfm.  All proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

UConn fans came up huge in Monday night's sellout against No. 1/1 Baylor.  Husky fans overcame Baylor fans by donating a bighearted 13,920.62 at the XL Center.  Other fans made donations ONLINE at (http://www.play4kay.org/faf/search/searchTeamPart.asp?ievent=1041592&team=5368671) or texted HUSKIES to 85944 to make a $10 donation.
